Ms. Dickson's Art Room!

Biography-All About Me!

Hello There! I'm Ms. Dickson, and I am the Visual Arts Specialist at J.P. Ryon Elementary. This is my second year at J.P. Ryon and my second year teaching. I am very excited to expose students to many different kinds of artwork this year!

In August 2007, I moved to Waldorf, Maryland from
Olmsted Falls, Ohio where I grew up. I went to college for two years at Bowling Green State University and then finished college at Cleveland State University. I have a bachelor's degree in Fine Art with a specialization in ceramics and a minor in Education. I love to create things out of clay when I create my own artwork. I also love to paint, and I have some of my own paintings hanging in my home. During college I worked with a non-profit organization called Art House, Inc. At Art House I would create lessons for students to do in our building. The building was right across the street from a school, and the 5th Graders would walk over to the building to do their artwork. I also would work on Saturdays during an open studio where families could come make any type of art together using clay, paint, and drawing supplies. During my time at Art House, I learned a lot about how to work with many people at once. This helped me a lot while I was learning how to teach art classes.

When I have free time, I like to do many different things. I spend time watching movies, painting, drawing, reading, walking, and shopping! Some of my favorite movies are Finding Nemo, Labyrinth, Mamma Mia, Hairspray, and Mona Lisa Smile. I try to read a little bit every night before bed if I'm not too tired. I really like to spend time with my family, but they still live in
Ohio. Right now I spend a lot of time with my friends. We like to go out to eat, go see movies, and go to museums. During the summer, I enjoy camping! I like to be outside as much as I can, as long as it's not too hot.  My favorite color is purple. I also love to collect things with fish on them! This year the art room is covered in fish!

On this website you will find information about each grade level and what they are doing during art class. The site will be updated every month, so please check back for new information. Also, I am going to include different books and websites for students to enjoy! Please feel free to browse the site and contact me!
